haha. People worry about CPU and GPU temps, not hard disks. That's only a concern if your case really is shocking at cooling.

And, chances are if they are running at least one new raptor, they have other powerful kit in their case, and hard disks are the least of their concerns.

I've got two raptors..they produce alot of heat and the noise is crazy sometimes which appears they have fixed in this new version so another good reason to go to it vs two in Raid0.

The F1 drives are meant to be faster than the Raptar in some tests, not sure which ones, but they use three 320GB platters which give better speed, less price and more space; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=14&subcat=940

I'm a little disappointed the new drive only has 16mb cache. I'll be interested to see what the price is on SSD drives in about a year.

The funny thing about how people go ga-ga for Raptors is: there are 15,000 RPM SCSI drives and have been for years. They cost more, sometimes a lot more, but rock. Not that many people have SCSI controllers in their home computers...

Yep Some Super Fast servers have HDD's with 17,500-20,000RPM

The Price of 10,000RPM drives is excessive plus they only give a 5-10% performace gain in some applications whereas in some things they make no difference

Plus even 10,000RPM is laughable in computing terms the cpu could do 1000 cycles before the drive does one revolution so until affordable Solid state drives come out the hard-drive is just too slow meaning we need large amount of RAM to compensate for the differentation between CPU and HDD speeds

Yeh ive got a computing technology exam in two weeks so writing this will help it stick in my head :yay:
