Has my hard disk gone to meet it's makers?

A little info on my drives.

Windows volume: 2 x 160gb disks in RAID0
Data drive: 2 x 400gb disks in RAID1

I left my computer on overnight with Bittorrent running and i woke up and tried to browse my data disk. It took a while for everything to appear, but it did eventually.

I rebooted and noticed that on the RAID status screen, RAID1 was set to "verify" as opposed to "ok" like my RAID0 was. So, i opened Windows and installed the Intel Matrix Storage program (http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/). I rebooted again, and the next time it started windows, Matrix Storage manager popped up saying "The data in a volume is being verified and repaired" and, when i open the program, i get this (image plugin won't work) :



It is progressing, but i am wondering whether one of the disks has broken, or whether for some reason there has been a corruption error, and the data on the two disks doesn't match.

Any ideas?

EDIT: It's now at 71% complete with 27 verification errors found and repaired.

Yes. Something has happened to your hard drive and the RAID 1 is trying to rebuild itself.

Let it complete and see what happens. You might run checkdisk or whatever drive program you like and see if it finds and marks some bad clusters.

For peace of mind, if you know your hard drive manufacturer (which you probably do because of the setup you have) they should have some drive utilities that you can boot with to test the hard drives. They are pretty good and can tell you if you have a problem.

Or you could RMA it. Then it would meet its maker. :p

Well, it repaired itself and the RAID status monitor says "OK" in big green letters. I assume something crashed and caused verification errors. I wouldn't be able to RMA one of the disks because it's an old server one Dell gave me when they upgraded my 160gb drive (i made a fuss :))

It also now pops up in the right hand corner when window starts saying "Storage manager is active. Your computer is now protected from single hard disk failure.", which seems like a good sign.
