    HD Wipe Out

Was curious on how to completely wipe out your HD. Like, literally remove everything off it, including the operating system and anything else you can think of - like as if you just bought it.

There are particular programs which will put data beyond recovery by writing millions of "1"'s and then millions of "0"'s to the disk, a ton of times.

That is the only way to be sure.

I use Acronis (You pay for this) to wipe the disk with 0's before doing a full reinstall but if you want to keep it simple just do a Full format when you go to reinstall the OS like what your Windows XP disk may prompt for. Don't go with the quick if you intend to erase stuff...quick can be used if your doing a fresh install in a new drive.

You want one that overwrites at least 7 times; that's the official government standard for such software in the UK.

Well, is there any way to disable an operating system cd key? Wanted to know because I'm planning on buying a bigger hard drive and want to reinstall the OS on that hard drive.

are you worried about it not allowing you to reinstall beyond once? You can, sometimes you may get a prompt to call MS and input a number code but it only takes a few mins..if you have to talk to them on the phone just say your switching out a pc of hardware and they will give you a new code to put in..no biggy.
