Well I'm looking for a PC. My budget is 1 grand (not loaded with money) but I'm willing to go 100 or 150 overboard if needed. I also want to know if I should get a premade alien or not but I've heard that it's overpriced. Thoughts and or suggestions appreciated.

I've built my own machines for well over 10 years and I have finally given up.
The range of parts on the market has increased tenfold and compatibility issues are hiding in the dark corners waiting for you... and they'll jump out and bite you when you're not looking.
For 6 or 7 years I was able to build my own machine for some 3/4 of the retail price - however more recently I've found that the most reliable and less likely to "f you over" at the last minute machines are ones pre-built for you specifically for your needs.
Put straignt, Dell.
My days of self-built machines are over. Around a year ago I built myself an AMD 64bit 6600+ with a nice 4G's of ram, Vista 64 Prem and an x1950 (I used to have an ATI fetish....). It ran superb for a few months then for some unknown reason it decided to lock up when playing the likes of Crysis, Rainbow Six, Lineage II and then when FFOW came out, it was the final straw. No heat issues, no power issues, no GFX issues... not a frikken clue. Because it was self built I had no-one to turn to, none of the hardware manufacturers would admit fault and would not accept the parts back, blaming another piece of hardware.
So.. I got myself a Dell XPS720. Google it for the specs... or look in my profile.
The total cost was around 500GBP than the machine I built a year ago, but with the added bonus of having an additional 600GB drive space and cooling which would make the Arctic blush.
I like Dell now.
Their 24 hour XPS dedicated support is good for its word... as long as you call at like 4 in the morning.Comment

Yeah, 32bit can only address 3.2-3.5GB, but it's worth it in vista. I went from 2 to 4GB and it helped quite a bit.Comment

ECS makes cheap motherboards. I don't know about their gfx cards though. And is it still possible to get XP? 2 gigs should be enough for XP.Comment
