I wasn't really going to build a $2300 computer. I was just wondering what you could do instead of buying the HP Blackbird that's been appearing in the banner ads. I probably wouldn't spend more than half that for a computer anyways. :shakehead:

And when CPC reviewed the blackbird, they weren't really blown away by it, although they are stupidly fussy at times.

I have Adblock set up to block the most common ads from the big ad companies, but I leave TGN's own ads up to support the site and because TGN uses their own ad domain. :)

The Blackbird is certainly interesting, but nothin' really beats a quality build (or even a Falcon Northwest PC). Some of the ideas (like the W/C system, or the thermal properties) need to be brought into the mainstream, though.

I totally agree with The Spark! i have the same mobo and procs and that system is quite good and high end in my point of view it will slip to mid-high end system when the real next gens 99s come out.

Plus, not every game is as demanding as crysis. Hell, you can still run a lot of games off of a 6 series card.

Just about I ran a 6600, and it barely ran BF2142, couldn't actually go in the Titan with more at 16 or so people in it. I tried the closed beta with my 6600, that failed. If I would have tried it with Crysis I suspect it would have exploded.

Good luck finding them though.

Not to mention the Q9450 has a lower multiplier making it hit an FSB wall much sooner then other CPUs like the Q6600. The most I've seen a Q9450 do is 3.6 GHz before all the other components give out (at around +450!).

I've seen a couple places that have the Q9450 in stock, including newegg. they will probably become more popular soon. also i doubt most people are going to be pushing their q6600's or Q9's over 3.6 anyhow.

My 6800 handled BF2142 fine on medium/high gfx and oblivion on lower gfx.

I overclocked it though.

Oh, there are a few out but finding them is fairly sparse. Not to mention most are OEM too. Take a look at this.

Umm, so _S3rH3nD_ a better computer for $1600? For that much I could do a whole lot better. The motherboard for starters is outdated, no need for a second card, or a second optical drive. Also 4 gigs of RAM is a waste.

yep RDST is right, SLi is not very game friendly nor is 4gigs of ram as OS XP is not going to utilize all four sticks, i think it usues only 3 or 2.5 iirc, unless ur using Vista u can put 4gb. as for a mobo a nice IP35 chipset is good.

U dont need a quaD unless extreme multitasking, either way the E8400 is good Quads are over kill.

SLI is game friendly, more so than Crossfire. However, unless you are gaming on a very large (24+ inch) monitor then there is really no point to it. If you are also big into Crysis then SLI isn't a bad way to go either. Of course, spending $600+ on GPUs alone doesn't really appeal to me.
