    my problem was the filter that was sitting between my modem and phone line
    Those filters are only for the phone(s), not the modem.

      nope, some ISP's require them.. they have a phone socket and ADSL one..

        What you have pictured there is a splitter, the ADSL side of it is unfiltered.

        If you still interested in ADSL speeds, I'm on an Internode (Telstra Wholesale) connection. I'm about 2.3km from the exchange.


        Here is an old test I did:


        You can see how my speed results have changed, my Billion Router which got the higher speed result, died on me so I'm using my spare(Draytek Vigor 2600). So you can see different modem can mean different speed. Also note that the second speed test in done from Canbara, so this also shows how flawed Speedtest.net is.

        You might like to also try getting a C10 filter, as filter can also effect speed if they aren't quit up to scratch. Extension leads are bad, don't use them, instead install the modem near the phone point and run CAT5 network cable to your computer, it will save you pain.
