If you rearrange the letters of ATI and AMD, you can spell DAAMIT.

But what Scinto means by run independently is that ATI still runs itself like before the merger, but they are just a part of a larger company now.

Which means that AMD wont have such a big influence on the Cards that get produced so you cant blame AMD for products that ATi release and vice versa, if both had been combined then no doubt we would have creations of CPU's & GPU's on a single card.

Who says they aren't working on that as we speak? It's been hinted at several times.

i heard rumours about it years ago but nothing came of it, its a shame really if such a thing could work it would mix things up a bit.

For some funny reason i have to agree with you Scinto on the CPUGPU thing, what i am rly looking forward to is the gpu with a physx chip, i read somewhere that Nvidia purchased Agea or something of that sort and will combine physx with a gfx card which sounds kinda great to meh, considering not many games use physx but may in the future.

For some reason I think a pre-assembled water cooled triple chip graphics card isn't going to be cheap. :)

How about AMD get off their arse and make a decent mid range card because Nvidia is dominating that end of the market.

                          But, here we go anyway:

                          Asus EAH3850 Trinity

it appears that ati focus is still in the wrong direction...

As I said before, they aren't going to release it.
