bios doesnt realise ram+

hi guys,
today i bought one 1 gig veritech 400 mhz ddr ram..my motherboard has 3 ram slots..two were occupied by 2x512mb pc400 ddr-ram wise 8c(64x8)
i tried placing the 1 gig to third slot but comp showed me that it was a mistake with some noise..so i took one of those 512s out and placed the other one.
result: it still says its 1 gig ram

i took them both out and put 1 gig ram
result: its still 1 gig ram and 266 mhz(it had to be 400 mhz)

so my questions:
1) what mhz are my 2x512 ones?i really cant recognise it..
2) can i use them all 3 without an error?
3) how can i make bios recognise it?
4) how can i set it to 400 mhz if i go for 1 ram only?

Goto the manufacturers website for your motherboard and download the latest BIOS Update.

Mixing and matching RAM is never a good idea. Unless your sure its the same model and size.

Yep you will want to trash the two 512 sticks or sell them and pick up another 1 or 2 GB VeriTech stick(s) that are exactly the same.

You should look into your manual. There should be a table telling you what kind of ram-combinations you're able to use with your motherboard.

ok i have fixed it..at least its now 1.5 gb ram..
the thing is that third ram slot is not reading anything..
when i check it from everest it shows 3 banks but 2 modular slots..
what the heck?
how to enable a third ram slot?

Like i advised above, make sure you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard.

yeh get the latest revision from your Mobo manufacturers website and put it on a pen drive..then when you boot up plug it in and go into bios and flash to the latest bios....I think...ive never done it...but i think thats how you do it..If someone else can confirm that you should try it
