Mainboard woes

Ok so I had a bad bios flash on my Asus P5B Deluxe. I sent the board back to Asus RMA Dept. they said they have a 10 business day turnaround to either fix or replace the board. After the ten days i call them and they tell me they are out of stock on my board ( i guess they cant re-flash the bios...go figure) and they are looking for a replacement board...still no email from them...a day later I call back and the rep tells me a rep from the service dept. will contact me to offer me an "upgrade" to a different board. My question is what would/ could be a upgrade to my p5b deluxe and still maintain the use of my current hardware..i.e...ddr2 ram?

And has anyone ever had any experience with Asus RMA'S before?

you may get lucky, as they might upgrade you to a P35 board ie P5K Series

Update: Just got off the phone with a supervisor of tech support and he said they will upgrade me to the P5K Deluxe...in the event they dont have one on hand at that moment they will go even better and send me the P5E Deluxe....so now I await the email stating when that will ship out to me...hopefully in the next few days.

P35 newer chipset allowing the use of CPU's with a 1333mhz FSB ie the Wolfdales that were released recently and possibly Penryn CPU's.

They RMAed you the board for free after you screwed up the bios flash?? or was it a bad board causing the bad flash?


Ohh and I don't Overclock... never saw the need when hardware changes daily so its best to just upgrade and not void warranties.

They don't know if you've overclocked or not unless you state you do.

LOL ohh yes they can....

They can detect a OC, bios change...very easy to see once hooked up to the correct equipment.

Discussed this and saw first hand with a BFG Tech at a conference once.

For a retailer, it costs a lot less to simply replace the test, than to go through hours of testing. Labour costs are simply too much.

Actually it was both my fault and Asus, It was my fault for flashing the bios in a windows environment (Really dumb I know) But was due to Asus and their faulty flash software...thats the reason they are replacing it....the problem was they never told us that the software was not compatible with a 64 bit OS.

I just flashed my BIOS on 64bit Vista from 0700 (or near that) to 1226 using Windows based EZ-Flash.

All i had to do was set the controller to RAID and reinstate my overclock and it all worked fine again.

You needed to update the EZ flash program.

I actually used the Asus update program not the ez flash...the problem was with the Update program itself and xp 64 bit, it was going fine ive always used it in the past until it erased my bios and would not reflash...so when i rebooted crash free bios program had nothing to work with and left me with a blank bios ...great news is they were out of stock and are upgrading me to p5k wi-fi deluxe...i did not have the wi-fi addition on my p5b deluxe so just another bonus i guess.

Ah, i meant Asus Update. No idea where EZFlash came from :p

I don't know about XP 64bit, i don't think it's as well supported. Why did you flash it in the first place?
