First off, what's your price range? How much are you planning on spending?

Generally I'd say get a Intel Core 2 Duo, P5K mobo, and an 8800GT. If you can afford more maybe core for a quad core processor.

What he said! And a nice 600+ PSU never hurts. At LEAST 2 gigs of ram is a must.

Agree with the above, a C2D, 88GT or GTS(G92), and a decent PSU 600~650W Corsair or another major brand, 2~3gigs RAM, ur choice of Storage 7k2RPM.

          Budget +/- € 1200,-

So you guys recomend an Intel Core 2 or Quad processor, at least 2 gig, 72 rpm HDD and a graphic card with 768mb

Good call on the 600w PSU that is for the processor i guess?

          ATI of Nvidia?

            Noooo...... :p
don't get an ATI, right now you want to get an 8800GT or a 8800GTX (G92) if you want to shell out the extra cash, although I don't think it's worth it. The 512MB of the 8800GT will likely be more than enough for your gaming needs for quite some time.

thanks. I think I will go for the:
Nvidia 8800 GT PCI-e 512 MB DDR 3 256 Bit 2x DVI Dual Heatpipe Cooler
              or
              ATI HD3870 X2 Dual GPU PCI-e 1024MB DDR3 256 Bit 2x DVI, HDCP, HDMI

              Any advice for the CPU?
              AMD or Intel
              Quad or Dual

Intel all the way, there's no competition there. Quad core is better, if you can fit it into your budget. Q6600 perhaps?

The 8800GT is better, more memory only helps at higher reses after it hits 512mb.

I've told him like 3 times now... I don't think he's really paying that much attention. :p

                      lol

sorry just had to be sure...

I found the conformation on tomshardware.com

"The Radeon 3870 is a lot of card for $250. The only reason not to buy a 3870 is the Geforce 8800 GT 512 MB, which can offer notably more performance for only slightly more money. The problem is that most 8800 GT 512 MB cards have inflated prices, but if you can find an 8800 GT 512 MB for sale close to the 3870's $250 price point, it's a better bet than the 3870."

Jake thank you for your help!

                        AMD: HELL TO THE NOES

                        Nvidia: 88GT, 88GTS(G92), 88GTX.

                        ATi: 3870, 3870 X2.

i agree!! the 8800GT is rediculously good for the price! my step dad has one and he can run crysis on high so with that gpu.. and maybe the Q6600 which is fairly cheap now and id say go for about 3-4gig of ram :)
