IE acting funny in Vista 32bit Heome Prem

Lately I've been having problems with it. The pages load up sooooo slowly. Or more precise the first page loads quickly but after that it's more like <1kb range. The IE does not crash or stop responding. It just loads the pages very slowly.

With Firefox (don't get me started) browsing works fast like the IE used to. There's nothing wrong with the connection since I can still play online games/surf the net with other browsers etc.

And please. Pretty please refrain yourselves posting the brain-fart answers bashing the IE, Firefox FTW or "That's exactly why I use firefox". So no vindicative posts on behalf of the firefox or opera please.

To the record. I have no problems switching over to the Firefox if this continues, but I would very much like to get to the root of the cause since it might cause system unstability which I have started to suspect. I smell rat here. I've scanned the system for any known problems.

The problems started after I took Avast and ZoneAlarm off and installed AVG. All done with reg cleaning in between.

It sounds like an isolated problem. I use IE 7, vista home premium 32bit and avast anti virus and I don't have this problem. have you tried getting rid of IE, redownloading and reinstalling it?

Try downloading the Internet Explorer 8 Beta, see if that helps.

How to get rid off IE 8 beta if it does not work? Or uninstalling IE7 for that matter?

I haven't done this before since IE is pretty much ingrained to the Windows system so I'm on unknown waters here.

Same here, can't figure out why IE is so slow.

I just use firefox and don't bother with IE at all.

Other way round for me, I'm on Vista 64 and recently Firefox is hanging slow on some pages. Though it just might be my crappy router.

ugg.. just having zonealarm on it to begin with has caused a issue... repair winsock for starters... if that fails you should back up your data and reinstall Vista. Zonealarm is horrible on Vista and almost as bad on XP. Use a Router with a NAT firewall and windows firewall and thats all you will ever need if you keep your machine clean from spyware to begin with.

I'm sure you will see add-ons that you won't be able to remove in IE..but just disabling them isn't good enough.

I make a image of a install I think is tweaked out fully and put them on a external.. a problem like this comes up I stick in a Acronis True Image disk and boom I'm back in business with a fresh install and everything loaded as before the issue in usually a few mins. :)

the detection rate for AdAware is horrible.... superantispyware with Spybot FTW.


As for Avast its very good but the main thing here is he had zone alarm on the computer at one time and that alone even if removed can screw up IE and/or winsock.

I live by run as many as you can. When it comes to removal tools. None of them are perfect.

It's not any virus or malware (unless you count ZoneAlarm or AVG as one) related. The machine is squaky clean what comes to those pests. No uncounted nettraffic or suspicious use of system resources. It's something more inherent in the system that goes way deeper.

And I think you are onto something here suspecting ZoneAlarm (or Avast) being the culprit. And I would drop Avast being it since I've never heard anything bad or experineced any problems either with XP or Vista while in 3 years of usage until the problem with this MS game Freelancer.

On the other hand I've heard some negative stuff about ZoneAlarm from various sources. Both AV and firewall burrow themselves pretty close to OS core to be able to function so it's not a very big leap of imagination to say that something has gone wrong when running uninstall. Even when they ran through both ok.

Winsock? Have heard the term (and I'm checking it out from the Wikipedia after posting this). How you fix that? Some instructions to get going fixing that would be nice.

I can do a fresh Vista install but that's like a last resort. It would take me a week to fix my settings and stuff. Oh, how I wish I had undertaken making images as backup my area of interest

I'm seriously considering doing that next time.

ps. Been using Firefox in the meantime and it works. Still it crashes sometimes on me so it's not perfect. I mostly miss the glassy Aero bars on it
