my budget is no more than $550 USD

i want to play bf2 on high bf2142 on medium at least, i want to play ffow on medium at least, and "just cause" on medium / high

just a system that could run 2006 and older games on high and modern games like mid2007-2 months into the future on medium

btw i only want to buy stuff that has drivers on Cd i am not going through the headache of downloading drivers will the screen flcikers on and off because of cheap manufactures

i dont need an os i hvae windows xp home, dont need keyboard or mouse or speakers / headphones, dont need montor.. only need the tower

    You live in the states?

    if so newegg ok?

    This should do:

    Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128059

    Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115031

    Dvd drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827118002

    RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820161182

    PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171028

    Vid card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814134038

    HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136225

that will play the games listed above well..Only thing im not sure about on my list is the PSU..might wanna upgrade that...Oh and its incredible what you ccan get in america for those low prices..Here in the UK we get ripped off a beaut!!!

Ok, good decision to build. 10x the fun, 10x the value. :yay:

        Case- Coolermaster Elite $40
        PSU-- SILVERSTONE ST50F 500W $60 (-$10 MIR)
        Mobo- Abit IP35-E $90 (-$30 MIR)
        CPU- Intel Pentium E2180 $80
CPU Cooler- Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 $30
        RAM- 2GB Corsair DDR2-800 $55 (-$25 MIR)
        GPU- XFX 8800GS $150 (-$20 MIR)
        HDD- Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 160GB $55
        Optical- DVD-Burner (brand doesn't matter much) $30

Total=600-85= 515 before shipping. All prices are were taken from Newegg.com

The difference between my system and Hellsent's is that he added more graphics horsepower and CPU cache at the expense of a better PSU and HDD. I decided not to use the extra CPU cache becasue this is a budget build, and the tiny difference is not worth $45. I also opted for less GPU power because the OP said he wasn't going to play any new games. The card I chose is by no means slow and will definately play BF2/2142 maxed out at 1280x1024. But the extra power is hard seems unnecessary for the OP's needs.

And I'm not bashing Hellsent's config, but rather explaining the differences and why I made them.

          Are you okay to overclock.

A lot of people new to computers can be intimidated with that word, but, with Core 2 Duo's, it makes the process so simple it's possible to get a very good speed without even having to touch voltages.

I mean, even Hellsent did it :p

That's the thing, it's a good CPU, but it has the potential to be very good. It's very easy to get a 3.0ghz overclock on it without even a sweat on touching anything like voltages.

Plus, in that order, you have an Arctic Freezer Pro which is the best cooling:price mix.

Um, i don't mind helping out, but i like it when people do some research themselves, and then don't argue when i suggest doing something.

The Radeon 3850 or 3870 is a possibility if they are cheap.

i dont know if you directed that to me but im not sure when did i ever argue with your suggestion.. all i see is me asking about a different video card and about the e2180.

the reason im asking for more suggestions is because i dont know which things are better or worse ok... maybe try understanding that not everyone is as knowledgeable about computers as you

                              An E4500 would be better.
