how much slower/faster would a pentium 4 2.26ghz HT be against a celeron d 3.0ghz? and the difference between a pentium 4 2.8ghz and a celeron d 3.0 ghz?

without research I think I would go with the P4, especially if its a 'northwood' (and socket 478). those northwoods are great overclockers, especially the 2.4ghz. Ive never been a fan of celerons because of their crippled L1 and L2 cache size.

P4 2.26 vs Cd 3.0 --> celeron probably has the edge.
P4 2.8 vs Cd 3.0 ---> P4 would probably be much better.

out of all those chips you listed the P4 2.8 would be the best.

thanks signa and the reason is because i only surf the web and play Americas Army so i dont really need a high tech processor

You can get a low end core 2 duo for about £40, and it would wipe the floor with a P4 or PentiumD

core 2 duo isn't exactly "high tech" anymore.
Its pretty standard. P4 is outdated. :p

When you can get a Core 2 Duo and motherboard for £70-£80, i doubt it.
