What you think of my laptop spec...

Hey I recently maxed out my alienware AREA51M 7700 DESKTOP REPLACMENT

its now has 500gb hard drive @ 7200 rpm
    4gb RAM
3.8ghx intel pentium 4 dual core processor
nvidia geforce go 7950 gtx 612mb(biggest i can use)

what you think. pretty good for a laptop

    anything you would change/make better?

also wondering if the 7950 is the best card that can fit in the area51m 7700
    ??

    thanks

Pentium 4 Dual Core is crap.

And I fail to see the point of this thread, especially as there is no poll.

Hey MJ, its a laptop. Which means that you are extremely limited in your upgrade path. And, while you have a decent GPU and enough ram, the CPU is going to be your bottleneck. For the record unless you use a 64bit operating system you wont actually be able to use all 4gb of ram. I am also pretty sure that the 7950 has 512mb not 612mb.

Yup, that CPU will hold a lot of things back.

Dont be so hard on him guys. It sounds like its an older laptop that he is upgrading. 3.8ghz is going to perform pretty damn good + throw off some heat.

I dont think there is anything more you can upgrade on it. your best bet would be to check the alienware forums.

              Its crappy

              1. That laptop is about 2 years old.
              2. I can build a desktop that it better than that for $1000 or less.

Aside from that, i do not believe that laptop is upgradeable.

I'd be little scared about having the stove, aka P4, and a good GPU inside a laptop.

It's very important for you to give your laptop breathing room and keep your desk clear from clogging the air ducts of your laptop.

I really like the 7200RPM HD. It's gonna make a huge difference in everyday use.

But why have a gaming laptop when you could have a nice gaming desktop and a slower laptop for openoffice and firefox for the same money. I mean how mobile are you really going to be while gaming. Not mobile enough to justify the added expense of a laptop i should think.
