Ok so I currently have an Nvidia GeForce 7600GS. My PC died so a guy is repairing it, and I asked for an Nvidia GeForce 8600GT.

When my friend heard this, he said it's feels like only a 5% increase in performance, and I should save a bit more and get an Nvidia GeForce 8800GT.

Is this true? I'm not much of a PC expert.


Should I save the money or is it worth it. (Since it would take forever to get the money for the 8800GT, and I can't get some of the sw33t new games coming out).

i believe the 7600GS is AGP, where as he 8600GT and 8800GT are both PCI-E, this means you woulc have to upgrade the motherboard.
I had a 7600GS in my old pc, which was AGP, to check you could download GPUz, google it?

If i am wrong, or if i misunderstood your post and you are infact getting a new pc, then the 8800GT is much better than a 8600GT although from a price/performance point of view the ATI 3870 is a much better option than the 8800GT.

Well, I'm not getting a new PC, I'm just upgrading my 'gaming' PC.

I get like 50 FPS in BF2/2142 and 40 FPS in COD4, I'm hoping to make them 60-(70) FPS and 50-(60).

Bassically I just want better graphics.

If it is AGP then the cards that would be an upgrade to that are not worth the money, the prices are higher than they should be due to it being Legacy hardware.

Are we talking AGP or PCI-E? Because, in both situations, the 8600gt is a no-no.
If you have AGP, don't bother upgrading. it's expensive and slow.

For PCI-E, get either a 256mb 8800gt or a Radeon 3850.

One last question, and I won't bug you guys anymore about this new Gra Card.


So yeah, my friends told me I need to "Get the card used to being used". So do I just play and play to do this? Or is there something special I didn't/should do.
