About 3 weeks ago I bought a new cpu to my computer, but i noticed it did not work with my motherboard. Now i have decided to buy a new motherboard: Asus P5KPL. I understand a little bit of how to install it but i have some questions.
1. my computer is sore bought, so will there ne a problem with drivers for the cpu, gpu etc.?
2. is there anything special i need to think about before i start installing it?
3. can someone post a good newbie guide?
4. will the moderboard work with my other hardware?

Is that DDR2 RAM? I guess it is.

Just make sure the motherboard is correctly mounted on the risers to ensure there are no grounding issues.

It's pretty easy. Just make sure everything is hooked up. I like to double check all my connections before first turning on the power supply. It's pretty hard to kill anything as if something is wrong it usually just won't boot.

BTW, that GPU will seriously bottleneck that CPU.

1. Why did you get a E6750 when the E8400 was about to be released for the same price?

2. Why did you upgrade your CPU before your video card?

3. Just make sure to know exactly where to plug everything in before you unplug your old mobo. And you will need to re-install all your drivers.

Can pretty much guarantee that even if you get Vista installed it will fail activation, and if you call MS they won't allow it either. And if all you have is a recovery partition on the hard drive, you won't even get Vista to install.

Of course you can. Just go to the hardware manufacturer's website and download the latest.

I replaced a bad mobo on a friends HP computer a couple months ago, booted up, entered the COA number on the side of the machine, when XP asked, and it worked fine. *shrugs* :hmm:

That was XP. MS changed how it works in Vista.

You have to ring Microsoft up now or something, and for OEM copies you have to ring them even if you only reformat.

For the Vista thing every time i reformat i basically have to call the number they give and be like i reformatted. They then ask if its the only machine its installed on and i say yes and they give me the activation number. Nothing too hard.
