The format "war" is over?

Certainly looks like it, last month Warner Brothers dropped HD-DVD's and decided to back Blu-Ray instead over the past week HD-DVD's prospects have been dealt another three gigantic blows.

On Friday Wal-Mart, the world's largest public corporation by revenue (2007) dumped HD-DVD in favour of Blu-Ray.

It went from insult to injury when Toshiba themselves are reported to be planning to stop production of HD-DVD compatiable hardware to the tune of hundreds of millions of Dollars.

All I can say is, I'm even happier I bought a PS3 now

Very clever of Sony, they effectively made the PlayStation buyers finance the campaign for their new format.

It really makes little difference to me who wins the format war, as long as it is over when I decide to buy a player.
But so far I am quite happy with my old DVD player and CRT television, I feel no pressing need to upgrade.

As for the XBOX 360, it it probably quite simple to make an external Blue-Ray player instead of a HD-DVD. But there doesn't seem to be much reason to do that.

Why does everyone ***** about the 360 using a regular DVD drive. If needed, a game manufacture can use multiple discs...

And for movies, who cares really? Just wait and see what works out...

I do have to say, i say a blu ray movie playing at best buy and it was zomg good.

Because it was pretty short-sighted decision to roll with DVDs, movies? Quite a lot of people when they have to shell out a few hundred pound for the next gen of players.
