    TV Tuner

I bought a WinTV Hauppauge! Nova-T freeview tuner from Curry's, however, i have a few questions (Note, i have already bought it, not buying it)

Firstly, i was informed by the stores manager that i didn't need a tv license as it's freeview. I wasn't too sure about this, and thus, i bought it with the idea i might have to get a license after.

Secondly, what software can i use to cap/record programs to my hard disk? It says i can record in mpeg2 compression, but is there any free programs i can use which have a wider range of options?

    Cheers

No, you need a licence. The store manager is talking bollocks. I don't know about the second question but try VLC player, seems to do everything.

It helps fund the BBC so they don't have to show any adverts. Good IMO, since 4 advert breaks per hour is silly.

Well, the BBC claims that it has a fleet of TV detector vans, but views on this are mixed. http://www.bbctvlicence.com/Detector%20vans.htm

Things seem unlikely when you read this article; they are apparently unmarked so that they can work undercover and no single person knows exactly how they work... or, in other words, they don't exist, hence the fact that you never see them.

If they do exist, then be afraid... verrry afraid. :p

As for the Curry's guy, yeah, he's talking out of his arse.
