wat is causing my screen to freeze?

so i decided to OC my 6800GT a bit to about 390/1000 (stock is 370/1000) and i played Prject reality for like 30 min and then my computer freezes and my monitor displays a really garbled screen like one big artifact. this has happened many times b4 and usually through overheating when i use to clock over 400/1000.

so i run rivatuner's temperature monitor and run cs source with everything set high/HDR and all that fun stuff. i get about 20-30 fps and after 30 min, i check my temps and its been hovering around 59-63C for a while. so surely this cant be overheating becuz in the middle of summer, my 6800GT is usualy around 60C idle.

anything else that could have caused that garbled screen if it wasnt overheating?

Yeah, it doesn't matter about the temperatures. In my experience, there is a core clock limit and a memory clock limit - when your card hits this limit for even the slightest period of time, it'll BSOD. For the core clock, it will completely freeze your PC, the memory clock will cause artefacting and if you're on Vista, the video driver will freeze and attempt to restart with no success until you ALT+TAB out.

Sounds like simply a bad overclocking card. My 7600gt was like that. You couldn't add 10mhz without a crash. Put it to stock see what happens.

If you really want to OC it, you'll probably need to volt mod it.

yeah i was just talking to my friend who OCs alot. i just need to add more volts -_- which isnt good for the card, so i guess thats that.
