Need Help

I seem to have a problem with my PC but I'm stumped on how to diagnose it. When I power on my PC, it will sometimes just sit there and not load windows. I reformatted and everything was fine until it started again tonight. I'm not sure if my HD is going or its something else?

Specs:
EVGA 590 SLI
3 Gigs DDR2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2 ghz
8800 GTS
Vista Ultimate (also happened with XP)

Processor did it to me a while back, don't take my word for it, but it could be the problem.
