12v Fan Cable..

.. Can cause you such a head ache when it touches the side of your case while your PC is running.

So all in all, from one small 12v (3pin) fan cable touching my side door it has cost me;

Two dead 74GB Raptor HDD's
One bios dead Mobo
One new 160GB HDD (Stuff Raptors)
One new Mobo (Asus PK5 Premium)

Thankfully I have a 500GB external HDD to where I do updates a few times a week, so stuff like emails, music, TV shows and lots of other good things are saved. Stupid 12v fan cable.

Same thing almost happened to my brother. He accidently ripped of the speed controller from an Antec Tricool fan, the naked wire touched his case and let off some huge sparks. Luckily, no one was touching the case and no hardware was damaged.

You know you can claim that under household insurance as long as you have the receipts, which assuming it was bought online, should be accessible via your account.

What new parts are you getting then, and are you sure that your CPU isn't wasted?

Oh you can say owned, annoyed, expensive, everyword on the swear filter list. I just fail to see how 12v casued all this, the Mobo died as it touched it just as it was saving changes to the BIOS. BIOS = pure deaddd.

The BIOS ROM I think be dead, tried to reset the CMOS it was having none of it. Powered it up nothing, not even the GFX card splash screen.

Sorry about your loss. Sure it costs money, but I'd absolutely hate the hassle of putting everything back in order.

Those modular PSU's are good that those extra wirings are not hanging loose.

is a 12v fan cable a molex connector? If so, I don't see how it could touch the case with the plastic protecting it.
