well my m8 has one on a single pcie mobo /gigabyte ds3 i think) and i clocked it to 3.2 on air easy..so yes but i recommend a good after market cooler

Yup, you need a good aftermarket cooler.

The natural chip limit on air is about 3.6ghz, but that does require some serious Vcore.

I have it clocked to 3.04 on air with the freezer pro 7, any higher is limited by either my ram or the motherboard.

Your motherboard shouldn't limit it unless your dropping the multiplier for a higher FSB or the northbridge is overheating.

Although, to get a relatively high FSB, you need ram that's rated above PC-6400.

yeh it's my ram i think although apparently there are a bunch of fsb holes just above where i am now.

I've got the E6750@3,2GHz with the default intel cooler. No problems with that. Temps are 32C idle and 48-50C in real use. I can make them go around 55C if I burn with TAT.

Just a minor voltage increase (I can't remember the exact figure, just a couple of notches up).

Going any higher just does not make too much sense for me because the temps would rise with the default cooler and I get 800MHz for my DDR2 RAM with that 400 FSB. Besides I'm too lazy to tweak the last drop out of it by trial and error. Also the heatsinks get really dusty really fast for me. I was getting blue screens because of over-heating just after 3 months of usage after installing it. So I want to have some leeway and not walking on the edge all the time since the temps gradually rise with time because of the gradually more dusty heatsinks.

As an answer to original question. It's easy. Just keep your eyes on the temps.

Sry for late reply guys i was in Uni now i am back ok i am changing my sig cuz today i will finalize my order the techies @ yoyotech changed some of my specs the cooler which is the Artice cooler 7 pro, and i changed the mobo to the one similar to my previous post i got the Abit IP35 it reduced the cost for me and my friend said it was great for a PSU they have changed it from OCZ 600W to this one: Corsair 620W HX Series Modular SLi Powersupply, ATX, EPS 12V, whisper quiet i hope its good its Corsair, now back on the procs topic:


i have the Corsair XMS2 with DHX tech. heat spreaders and its speed is 800MHZ oh & its a PC6400.

i am much appreciated by the number of replies and am very happy and thrilled to have read that guys like impl and looqas have clocked theirs to 3ghz or over on air!

My goal is to decrease the amount on the price tag for my PC so i bought the 6750 and read somewhere on these forums that intel C2Ds' are good overclockers i have also read that people with e4300 OC'ed to 3.0 with ease, now that i have decreased the amount on the price tag i have a proc rated @ 2.66 iirc, i would like to up it to 3.0 with ease the case is an Antec 900 with all fans inserted even the optional ones so what do u guys recommend oh and heres one thign i 4got to mention how to OC? i know how to oc cards only not procs.

It is very easy to OC a CPU, basically you increase the FSB in the BIOS, its a bit more complicated than that but just google it. There are plenty of helpful guides.
once you ave it at a stable speed you can then lower the Vcore voltage to try to reduce heat output.
with your RAM you could very easily clock it at 3.2 (400x8).

say guys one more thing( sry for asking a lot ) is there really a big sort of deal btwn 2.66 and 3.0 and adding to that i am looking into getting this like in a year or so, the e6750 is like a transitional upgrade everything else in teh PC is stable.

all intel duos can be overclocked on air, the key is to know what the stable limit is for each cpu and dont forget to take into account the limitations of your mobo. But yes a great aftermarket cooler is a must...i recommend thermaltakes big typhoon.


My specs are E6400 (2.13GHZ) oc'ed @3.4GHZ,( made it to 3.6ghz but not stable) Big Tyhoon ,4gig ocz pc 6400, asus p5b deluxe mobo.

Mostly it goes unnoticed, but in some instances you'll see the clear benefits, encoding video for example. Or in CPU bound games. Anyway it makes you feel more manly for sure.

Plus you can usually equate your E6750 to some X models (they are at 3GHz) in terms of speed in reviews. The faster processor steadily gives 3-5 fps more in most games. And in Crysis all the digits do count, so it's worth it in my opinion.

say if i get the E8400 in 09 Preferably mid 09 or late 09 do u think prices will go high or remain stable personal opinions accepted!

right now its 135Pounds which is darn cheap!
