How to convert dvd's?

Well i legally own some dvd's and i recently purchased a 30gb zune(awesome) and i was wondering how i can get my dvd's on my zune.I googled and i saw this

aah its complicated, I tried ripping a DVD, it took ages and I ended up with the wrong thing (like the video in the menu background) Try and find a special guide written by someone.

AOA DVD Ripper is pretty good for that kind of stuff.

Doesn't appear to have any spyware/adware, and it also looks like a good find for a dvd ripper/converter. Usually they charge you for these things or else give you a trial that only rips 3 minutes. And yes it is helpful to know what you're doing when you rip movies. You only want the .bov files i think (maybe .fov) which are 1gb each. And make sure when you convert the dvd that it's in the hardware specs.

i have used DVD shrink (free on the interwibble) to decode dvds and re-encode as a VCD/SVCD format. pretty sure it will mpeg-them out, also.

it's a little old though, and some companies are using DRM infectionware on their DVD's that defeats this legitimate use of backing up your media.

there are some linux decoders that work on a lower level to help facilitate you exercising your rights to back up your media into different formats.
