The problem with AMD at the moment is that there are no new models in sight that will surely fit in the board you choose now. And even bigger problem is that they have an inferior products that just can't compete even pricewise.
Whereas Intel has P35 boards which will accommodate the new wave of processors released now. So, do yourself a BIG favor and get a P35 board. Just go http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=534 or https://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products...ype=socket+775 and start looking.
I hear Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R is a good choice since it supports DDR2 and DDR3 memory. Like my Asus PK5C.
You can buy any cheap core2duo and still later on be able to up-grade it to more powerful quad for example.
If you wanna go cheap get E8200 and you'll still have a product at your hand that beats the AMD flagship products.
I rarely declare anything FTW, but this is just plain common sense to go Intel now if you are building a comp from the ground up.
