cannot startup my pc.

these are my specs:
standart scaleo p pc
2.8 ghz pentium D
1 gb ddr2 ram(dont know the hz and wich type)
2 hd 150 gb(dont know the hz)
and I bought a NVidea 8600 gt 512 mb(this is a week before i got any problems).
I use a wired mouse and keyboard
and i use a headset.
the monitor gets the power from the net not from my pc.

could i be the psu? because there is no hardware loading it cant be a virus(i resetted the bios multiple times and somethimes it worked sometimes not).

ps sorry for some missing details but i dont have them atm.

Is this a self build or an off the shelf PC? If it's a self build is your power button attached to your motherboard? Are all the correct power leads plugged into your motherboard?
Is there a power switch on the back of your PSU? Have you checked that's switched on?
If it's none of these perhaps your PSU burned out, but the 8600 isnt exactly power hungry. The list of things that could cause this is pretty huge though.

By not starting up, what do you mean? Does it fail to POST? When you press the on button do the fans start up, and does anything appear on the screen? Is the PC plugged in?

ive bought a new psu and the problem stopped for the half. now my pc start up but at some time my pc just stops working. only the fans keep running the rest just stops. its an off the shelf pc. and i did check if the power button was on(even set it off for a test if that was the problem). its probebly my internet connection because it doesnt start up with the rest of my pc or my usb 2.0 ports are the fault. i can run everything good till at some point all my hardware stops working. no monitor no mouse no internet no nothing. only the fans keep on running and the start loosing control till they spin really loudly. all my hardware are suspects cuz if i use one intensif all fails it doesnt matter what( hd cpu grafix card internet connection all made that crash). and after i get a crash i cannot startup my pc. the fans start and thats all.

You're internet connection is nothing to do with it, and your USB ports are unlikely to be involved, since they are merely I/O ports and shouldn't affect the core system. I reckon you've got an overheating or borken CPU.

The best computing disaster I've ever been present at in class was when someone wanted to turn the volume up on the PC speaker. For some reason, he thought that he would be able to do it at the back of the computer, and promptly flicked the red US/UK voltage selector switch on the PSU. You'd be surprised how loud the bang is.

Another interesting one was mid way through a computing class. All the lights went out due to a problem in the building's power system, but the computers still worked and we carried on regardless. We then realised we could hear a lot of comments along the lines of "Nooo my work" from the class next-door. It eventually turned out that our lights were on the same circuit as their computers and vice versa. The electrician who designed that one ought to be shot.

lmfao...weird thing happned to me when a game sound was coming out of my pc but it was my friend next to me who was playing the game..turned out some numpty had switched the speakers around...

And another interesting one was when my friends pc was buzzing because there was a bit of paper in the fan so he bashed it and it got slightly quiter and he hit it again and he went so friggin loud everyone just turned around and looked at him with the front of teh case off and a clenched fist and a Whining computer..lolz teacher wasnt happy

Oh, if you're talking about computer based practical jokes, my school has got some real pros. For a period at the end of each computing lesson we switched all the keyboards and mice around between the computers. Someone else created a .exe file in VB which consisted of:

He then put it in the shared area with the filename "Do not run this program under any circumstances! That one knocked out about 15 PCs. Another time, he created a random error message generator which created an infinite loop of insulting error messages. However, he accidentally ran it on himself during a lesson and then discovered he had no way to override it!

Man, that's nowt.

At our old school (Bisley_Bob & Quentin will know this) we had a finger print scanner to allow students to sign in during the day, like a register. Well, the database and functionality of the scanners was held on a central server. Every time you signed in, it would make a "ding" noise if it worked, or a "ring" if it didn't

So, one day, the school nerd oversaw a teacher/admins password and logged in. He had designed a program that was meant use the "ring/ding" noise 99/100 times, and then on that 1/100 time, play an obscene wav or mp3 he had uploaded onto the network.

However, he wasn't that good at coding, and it played the obscene sounds 99/100 times, and the "ring/ding" 1/100. So, we went to sign in and it would shout "**** off and die" or some random rude South Park quotes. The 700 people around the school found the brilliant.

Eventually, he got caught by computer logs he neglected to delete, and was spared expulsion by the fact he had just got into Cambridge or Oxford!

Yep I remember that. Good old days.

One day when I headed for registration during lunchtime I saw everybody queuing for it in excitement, which had never happened before, as the register system was unpopular for students. The first thing I heard as I opened the door was:

Cartman: If some girl tried to kick my ***, I'd be like, "Hey. Why don't you stop ... dressing me like a mailman ... uh, and making me dance for you ... while you go and ... smoke crack in your bedroom ... and have sex with ... some guy ... I don't even know. On my dad's bed."

Everybody kept on repeating registering themselves just to hear more quotes and noises. Even I did that twice for curiosity. :P
