Can someone plz educate me about the difference between the two PCIE? I am currently using a 6600GT PCIE, can I use a a 2.0 PCIE card when I upgrade? or do I need to buy a new mobo that uses a 2.0 PCIE slot?

I believe PCI-E 2.0 slots allow PCI-E 2.0 graphics cards to run with extra bandwidth (not exactly sure how much more though).
A PCI-E 2.0 port is backwards compatible with older cards, and newer PCI-E 2.0 cards will run on older motherboards, just in the slower mode. -
PCI-E x16 is the origional PCI-E slot, which is on most new motherboards
PCI-E 2.0 is the new slot which has double the bandwith of the previous slot, at the moment normal PCI-E x16 slot is good for any graphics card on the market however you might find in two or three years when faster cards are around that normal pci-e x16 bandwith will not be fast enough to transfer data as fast as the card
To put it simply its a future proofing method so that Nvidia and ATI's cards arent held back by slow slots in the future and you will gain no performance if you have pci-e 2.0 at the moment. As alex said its backwards compatiable so that pci-e 2.0 motherboards run just fine with normal pci-e x16 cards
The only cards on the market at the moment with pci-e 2.0 support are Nvidias 8800gt/gts 512mb and ATI's 3870/3850

what everybody forgot to mention is there is pci-e x16 v1 & v1.1. PCI-E 2.0 will only run in PCI-E x16 v1.1 & 2.0 slots. it will not work in a v1 pc-e x16 slotComment

No, I was referring to PCI 1 or 1.1. I have previously been unable to find any info, but this page has a list of which chipsets supports it.

most new motherboards now have v1.1 but motherboards probably about 1 1/2 years ago didnt have v1.1.Comment

All P35 guys are clear meaning v1.1, but what's that with 965? Seems like that some stuff needs to be done. Can't really understand Flemish.

The P35 is basically the newer updated version of the P965 chipset. They both contain ICH9R and ICH8R northbridge chipsets respectively.
For new 1333mhz FSB based Intel Chips, a P35 board is the way to roll.
And, PCI-E 1x is the small, stubby little slot on the motherboard. It's rarely used and i believe only a few TV tuners or RAID cards use it. Effectively useless.Comment
