    Computer wont shut down?

    Well, ever since tonight my computer will not boot down. It gets to the "Shutting down" and acts like its doing something but doesnt. but if i boot down after i just started it up it boots down, help?



    Vista 32bit
    3gigs pc-4300 ram
    Tripower 650W psu
    8800GT
    I'm not sure on the motherboard it was whatever gateway put in...

    how long have you let it sit there? Sometimes vista finishes installing its updates and it can take a long time to finish.

      I occasionally have this problem. It happens when a program or driver has crashed and gone into a "hanging" state. This is where it is either in a loop or is in some kind of deadlock.

      The only way for me is to wait about 5 minutes and Vista eventually works it out and shuts down, otherwise, if your in a rush, simply hold the power button.

        it's either waiting to finish updating or like Alex said, it's some kind of driver issue.

          Or having Star Force installed can mess up your Vista machine.

              I let it attempt to boot for 15minutes. after 11 it went and booted UP?hmm......
