Not to get off topic or anything, but just wanted to ask since we're talking about sockets without opening a new thread.
Why do Socket 939 parts cost more than Socket AM2 parts, is it because Socket 939 is older or what? I mean, I added up the costs for the same parts for both sockets and the 939 total was like $200 more than the AM2 one.Comment

Because they are older and rare to find. Same thing goes with DDR memory vs. DDR2 memory. Its cheaper just to build a new system nowadays than to upgrade. Not to get off topic or anything, but just wanted to ask since we're talking about sockets without opening a new thread.
