Wanted to ask, is it worth it to upgrade from 3GB DDR2 667MHz memory to 2GB DDR2 800MHz Dual Channel memory?

Also, would there be any problems if I ran 2GB DDR2 800MHz and 2GB DDR2 667MHz?

And, is OCZ 4-5-5-15 or Corsair 5-5-5-18 better?

no, it is not worth an upgrade from 3gb 667 to 2gb 800 because you are losing 1 gig! and with difference from 667 and 800 you wont even notice it, i think its more for overclocking.

I agree that 3GB --> 2GB isn't an upgrade. But if you have RAM of different frequencies, I'm pretty sure you can use them together. The higher clocked RAM would then downclock itself to the speed of the other RAM.

667mhz is fast enough as it is really. Anything above that, you'd have to love benchmarks to notice the difference.

you won't get any appreciable performance increase by spending money to change the specs you've offered.

Well, I ran DXDiag and noticed that under the 'Display' tab it says:

Approx. Total Memory: 1885MB

I don't understand that, my video card only has 512MB.


Also wanted to ask, since Vista only accepts about 3.3-3.4MB of memory, is there anyway you can apply that left over memory to your video card, so it has more than 512MB or does it like automatically do that or what?

Well, if your going to lower the multiplier and go for a big front side bus, then yes, 667mhz or even 800mhz RAM can hold you back. But, if your keeping the front side bus still, then it should be fine.
