Networking modem

Ok, I need to purchase a network device so I can hook up my computer and the wifes' compute to the internet. I do not however want a wireless device, or a device that gives off wireless signals so others can "mooch" off of it.

Next, something that would not affect the speed of my internet too much.

My going purchase price is below $60.00 US. Newegg has so many, I'm not sure which one would be beneficial.

Ive got a US Robotics one but its wifi aswell with encryption on it, its connected 24/7, you setup the connection details through the router itself so if it resets it will re-dial your connection, some will come with a hardware firewall aswell.

Ah, great, so this means I can just hook the cable cord from the cable provider modem to the "switch" and then the internet cables from comp 1 & 2 to the "switch" and I should be good to go?.

Wouldn't he be better of with a standard router instead of on one with integrated ADSL modem?

I know my ISP provides their own modem which they can control remotely, I am not sure having your own modem is a option for all ISPs

he has one of those already, except he wants to be able to get 2 PC's internet access rather than 1 which a ISP provided modem usually does, whereas an adsl router provides 4 computers Internet/Lan access, plus a hardware firewall.
