pc shuts down?

Hi again all:)
I just installed a cooler Master Real Power Pro 750W psu.
The last psu i had died in this rig(my gaming rig i mean) and now the new one runs for any where from two mins to about 5 mins,then rig shuts down, any advice from the TGN crew?

The pc in question has a new Evga 680 I sli A1 mobo,2 gigs DDR2,350 gig Hdd and a 768 Asus 8800 GTX.

Its my first psu install( if that helps any)

if its a straight shutdown cutting out and you have to turn off the switch on the PSU to get the comp to power on again like mine im RMAing the PSU.

It shuts off,Some times it loads windows then after a min or 2 it shuts down.

Edit: Both psu and mobo are new out of the box.

I just noticed that on start up i get a:CMOS checksum error.loading defaults.

Yeah bro, i already used the jumper,Im new to the hardware install factor,so i guess ill take it apart and retrace my steps.

Edit: So i took it all apart again,booted it up,it ran a check disk with no shut downs,after check disk it started to reboot and just befor the winxp screen comes up POOF the damn thing shuts off.
losing my mind here!!!!!!!!!!!!

got a spare psu to try with?

No spare psu(old 600w fried) which is the reaason for the new 750,What are the chances they would send out a bad psu?

I hope this comes down to somthing i have over looked.

The old evga nf680 i AR mobo i had to RMA,so they replaced it with the
680 i A1 model.

Then i found that the psu was ALSO bad(a piece fell out of it)No, the rig was never droped and it sits like 2 feet off the floor.(away from carpet)

IDk what the deal is,the one thing im sure of is i MISS gaming and the gaming rig just had to die befor FH2 came out.

im in the same boat lol, waiting for the shops to re-open to RMA my 700w PSU as i know it is the problem,

I have noticed that it runs the longest when the rig is cold,did i not use enough thermal paste on the cpu?

Well i applied the paste to the heatsinnk and then set it down on the cpu
i read up on how much paste to use and i read about 50%(or so it seemed)
of the posters applied it to the heatsink as i did.

I used a thin layer of TP and spread it out as even as i could with my old ATM cad.

Could not enough TP be the issue? should i have put it on the cpu then set the heatsink on?

Edit: I opened it back up to re-apply the thermal paste and found that the heatsink is not even on the board tight any more,two out of the four(cheap A**) pegs were broke.

I have a intel heatsink with the poorly designed 4 turn tabs on it to secure it to the mobo.

Well its getin covered up and tucked away for a while.

Update

I started to unplug things and then boot the pc it was a no go untill i got to the 8 pin connector for the cpu.

I disconnected it and the pc ran with zero shut downs.

I'm guessing this means my CPU kicked the bucket when my old psu took a dirt nap?

I just thought id post what i found being you all tried to help me out with this.

Once again Thank you to all and ill be on the field SOME day when i have the money to get a new cpu.

Hang on, you've disconnected the CPU power supply, and your PC is stable? :hmm:

It didnt boot to desk top or any thing,Nothing loaded on the screen,it just ran with zero shut downs,It didnt display any thing on the screen when i unpluged the power to the cpu.
If i plug it back in it shuts down by its self.

ah, i see... so basicly you just proved its not your PSU?
