so the 8800 GTS 512 is better then the GTX / Ultra i just got mine and i love it but i just wanted to make sure i made the right choice because i cant upgrade anymore until late next year

the 8800 GTS is not better than the ultra/GTX.

Don't get me wrong, the 8800 GTS is still a kickarse card, it plays everything I throw at it maxed. I have the 320mb version and it's still powerful

8800GTS and GTX pretty much go side by side upto 1600x1200, but after that GTX will win because of the higher bandwith. The GTS manages to compensate this, and even win some tests, because it's much higher clocked. Plus GTS has better headroom for clocking due to 65nm line width processing technology.

You made a good choice anyway. In most cases you won't see any difference unless you are playing at very high resolutions.

^exactly what he said, its equal and possibly better at lower resolutions but the GTX still wins at higher resolutions.

I have an XFX 8800GTS 512mb ADE and this card is better than the GTX
in DX9 and only as a few fps less in DX10... i bought it for 348.00 at directcanada.com and the GTX is still over 500$ whats the point of buying a GTX anymore? within 4 months i went through a BFG 8800GTS 320mb OC2, EVGA 8800GTS 640mb, XFX 8800GT 512mb ADE and XFX 8800GTS 512mb ADE

My friend bought a BFG 8800GTX 768mb OC2 last summer and dont get me wrong but his card still kick it but my card is sooooo close to him that he wants to sell his and get the GTS...

If you want a new card get the GT or GTS 512mb otherwise wait for the 9000
series in february...

For eagle probably whatever your monitor maxes out at, i know that the GTX can max out at 2550 i believe thats what it is with a 30 inch so whatever your monitor can handle that card will produce it. But see im running a Samsung 24 inch so a GTX wouldnt really do me much good would it? so the GTS was a good choice?

It's not better. Just superior bang for buck. It scarcely makes sense NOW to buy GTX, because first: GTS comes so very close, second: Even if you game at bigger resolutions, the 9xxx series is on it's way and you are guaranteed to have better value for your money when they come out. Prolly the flagship 9xxx will cost the same as the GTX does now but you have a faster product for the same price. So it's wise to hold on and suffer 1-2 months and see what happens. You'll always have time to get the 8800GTX if the 9xxx flagship is a total failure.
