Wireless....

Well i just found out about my Christmas list...


8800GT
Trio-power 650W
1 Gig of ram (I have vista and am only running 1 gig) (i wanted 2 more gigs..but ill purchase another later..)
The orange box
And finally, A Wireless Linksys card.... Not sure on what type it is but um, How much more ping will i get? noticeably? How much more slower will i surf the web?


Oh and it has to go through 2 6 1/2" walls...

Unlikely you will be slowed down unless it's an 2mbps 802.11b card (802.11g = 54mbps). Expect ping to shoot up 40ms at least (this depends on a lot of factors but I've actually had cards with maybe 1-2ms higher ping compared to wired) and if you dont get good drivers with it, expect frequent disconnects due to some Windoes mishap.

In any case, if I were your parents you would have been recieving coal for being such an ungrateful ****.

I have a netgear wireless adapter and it works fine. In fact most the time I forget its wireless because it runs just as good as wired.

When I first installed in on this machine though I ran into some problems and the only thing I can say is drivers drivers drivers!!!!!! Make sure you get the latest drivers off the linksys website.

Mine dropped connections all the time and it turned out I had to get LAN drivers for my motherboard for it to work properly.

Ok, I just joined the lowest pinged server I could find in call of duty 4 (ping-47) and my ping ranged from 47-53. Not bad! My computer is not on the same level as my router either. Not to mention the door to my room is shut and everything.

Its a good 50 feet or so and its going through about 3 walls. Its also on the level below me.

Well, they said I don't even have to use it. Phew.
