    Vid card or CPU?

Ya, so in the last couple of months every now and then my screen will either go blank or just freeze and become unrecoverable. I've assumed that when it goes blank it's the cpu and when it freezes it's the vid card. Hell if I kno. Anyway, In the past I would just put some extra thremal compound of the cpu or vid card and everything would seem to go back to normal. Well tonite the screen went bblank so I put some compound on the cpu and still nothing. I turn the pc on and it sounds like it's going through regular boot-up procedures with the bios and then the OS. But the monitor just stays unresponsive like it's not plugged into a video output source at all. I just wanna confirm with all the experts here that it's the video card that is effed. right?

btw: I tried plugging the monitor into the serial port on the mobo but I'm pretty sure I disabled the onboard video from device manager so I still get nothing when I do that.

    Thanks for replies........

my screen just froze while I was transferring some files to it from my laptop. So I shut it off and when I go to turn it back on I get nothing on the monitor. MY monitor light just stays on amber. So as far as I can tell the vid card is done. BUt the fan on the vid card is still running which I hope doesn't mean too much other than there's just power still flowing to the fan. I'm gonna try to find a 7900 on ebay though. If anyone thinks it might be something else I appreciate the feedback.
