Monting 8800 GTS?

Yeah, I'm getting the new 8800 GTS 512 mb tomorrow. AND I'M SO ******* HAPPY! :p

Anyway, just wondering if anyone know any good guides or similar for how to put it in your comp (I bet there's a fancy english name for this)? Searching on google doesn't do any good... Also I need to put in a brand new PSU, how do you do that?

Of course I will let someone that knows how to do it help me but I would like to know too a little more in specific how it's done.

And the GFX card, very easy, just unscrew your old one, pull it out, slot in the new one, screw it in, plug in the power and poof your done. :)

Sorry for the thread hijack, but its kinda related, does the 8800GTS take up two slots on your computer? Or is that only the GTX and Ultra?

The GTS is pretty much the same size as the GTX. The GTS is basically a hobbled down GTX

Once you taste the cherry it's very hard to settle for anything less in the future either.

First remember to un-install the video drivers from control panel if you are going ati -> nvidia or vice versa. Also might be a reasonable idea to uninstall anyway even if you are just up-grading because you never know what stuff nvidia/ati installs about the card info.

Anyway. Installing a new Vid card is extremely easy. Unplug the power cord -> open case -> unplug the cable to old card. -> Un-screw the old card -> release the little PCI-E notch that's in the back-end of the card -> remove the card.

And do in reverse order when putting the new in. It might be a good idea to de-dust the case while it's open and the most blocking component (vid card) is out of the way.


If you have any PCI cards (like soundcard, ethernet for some reason) it's advisable to move them to the bottom-most slots available in your mobo to give the vid card much needed breathing room. This lowers the temperatures a lot. Be sure not to block the intake with any cables or you'll have a buzzsaw in your case sooner or later.

Well, we were talking about 8800's. I mean...does an 84/5/600 really NEED a dual slot cooler.

As for forgetting about the GT's...damn, that's my own dumb fault, I've even been looking at PNY's and XFX's GT cards. Lol.

The only card id call true dx10 on that list is the 8800gt, the other cards are just too slow

I got my 8800 GTS running a tad faster then the GTX... 675/2000 hellz yeah! I can run everything on the highest setting's AAx4 and AF8 I just turn off shadow's cuz they are useless in cod4 and you gain about 15 fps with them off.. another good tip is turn off the HDR if you want about 10 more fps.. I run at about 120 fps avg... only will drop in big open area's down to about 90... but Im on a 24" monitor @ 1920x1200.. this game is prolly the best eye candy:FPS ratio ever released... but you do need a Core 2 Duo and a 8800 to really enjoy the eye candy... But I did find that with AA on it help's you see people better cuz they don't blend in the the texture as much at all..

thats kinda dumb man. Installing it yourself is half the fun. How are you ever going to learn about computers if you don't do it yourself.

Oh, and also many of the 3850's are single slots.
