    HELP before my computer fries

Ahh, Just idling along and its at 100% cpu when im just looking at the comcast home webpage. Could it be vista and only having 896mb (Intergrated is sucking up ram)? I have a AMD 5000+ X2. 77-78 processes running. PLEASE HELP!

Edit: its been being weird lately, just today though its running 100% at idle.

Bloody hell you have 77-78 processes running shouldn't be that many, On my pc I only 47 processes running and at Idle it's only using 0-2%cpu.

    What are your pc spec's?

I assume that it's a laptop, if so another gig or 2 of ram would really help. Have you scanned for spyware, viruses and defraged your hdd?

Run a spyware sweep. Use the one that comes with Vista.

                      Load http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys.../AutoRuns.mspx

Under "logon" tab you'll see everything that the windows starts up when you are booting. Uncheck all the crap like adobe acrobat, real player, quick time etc. you don't need them so stop them eating your memory and prolonging the booting time.

Under "services" tab there are more deeply embedded stuff that starts up also when booting like virus protections, sw firewall etc.

Go through both lists and uncheck all you don't need. There might also be a suspicious program. use google to find out about the service/program if you are unsure what it is.

                      Reboot.

then CTRL-ALT-DEL and go task manager and there processes tab. Click CPU header and you'll sort the list to see which process uses the most CPU at the moment. There'll you find you bad guy. If it's constantly the svchost.exe which uses the 100% then you'll most probably have a virus/trojan/malware/spyware which has disguised itself as a windows service.

And use google to find out about the processes. Just type in the name of the process like I have lcfd.exe here http://www.google.fi/search?hl=fi&q=lcdf.exe&meta=
and you'll find out about the process and is it good or bad or needed.
