    I need help connecting case to motherboard.

    My boyfriend bought me a case to replace the one for my HP. It's an ultra e-torgue case and the mobo is asus a8ae-le (Amberine-M.) The thing is there is NO manual for this board so I don't know what the polarities are. I need to hook up the power led, HD led, reset button and power switch. Has anyone hooked up an aftermarket case to this mobo?

    top left pins : Pwr led.
    bottom left pins : HD led
    Top right : pwer btn
    bottom right: reset


    the case has: pwr led 3 pins middle not used
    hd led 2 pins
    reset 2 pins
    pwr sw 2 pins

    I don't understand why the pwr led use 3 pins?

    Your mobo, but HP arent being helpful..

    how did your old case connect to those pins?

      All the wires went into one connector. It had pwr led, hd led and pwr switch. The pwr led on the old case used only 2 pins. I wonder if that's my problem. I tried just hooking up the power switch just to see if it would fire up. But, no go. :cry:

        cut the pwr led plug in half and then plug them in individually

          I went home for lunch and messed with it a while. I took the old switch off the old case and plugged it in. I connected power and... nothing. I checked all the connections and everything seemed ok. Later I'm going to try another psu. So far, I'm lost. From the old plug I did figure out pos/neg...assuming colored is positive. I messed with this so much yesterday, I had a dream about it.

          Any ideas?

          Found a manual!

            Can't tell from looking at the picture there, but on the backside of those connectors should be a mark of some kind (I have seen both a + and a small triangle) to indicate which wire is the positive.

              Ok, more problems.

              I plugged the pwr switch and everything in like the manual showed....nothing. Then, I take some screws out of the motherboard. Ta-da it fires up. I shut it down and put it back together. Get everything set up and ready to go and it's boots up saying "error: system fan failed. Hit F2 to continue" So, I hit F2 then it tells me to go into the bios. I did, then it shuts down. Now I can't get it going again. I put the old power switch back in just to try. I flipped on the psu in the back and the pc starts running, but my screen isn't on. I have to flip it on the back to turn it off. I tried a few more things, but it just won't run now.

              Oh, I tried the old PSU too

              What do I do?

                Sounds like your mobo gets shorted somewhere since you can fire it up outside the case. Are you sure it does not touch the back panel? Or the screw places don't leak current?

                After so much trouble it definately sounds like it's warranty time.

                  Ah-ha! I figured it out. I put the stand offs in the hole the case said to for a micro atx. Turns out it was too many. I took the ones out touching the mobo and everything is fine. Whew.... I should of checked that a while ago.

                    wow, I didn't know putting too many stand offs can give you so many problems.

                      It was not the amount of stand offs, but they just happened to touch some soldered places/or conductors thus shorting the board through the back panel.
