    GPU temps?

I've been having problems lately with BF2 where my FPS would drop significately. 60FPS all the way down to 15 - 20. It stays there and doesn't go back up until I alt + tab out, and then go back in. It happens every 15 minutes or so. It's not a RAM problem because BF2 usually uses about 800mb, so that's fine considering I have 3GB.

So I decided to check my GPU temps with rivatuner while I'm playing to see if that's the problem. On idle, the temp is 60C. When my FPS dropped I quickly minimized the game to check the temps. It said it was at 80C. Is this normal? I even felt the back of my computer (that's where the fan is located) and it was very hot, so I've moved it away from the wall and it's considerably cooler back there now, but I still have FPS drops.

I try to keep mine in the 70 range. But yours should be fine at 80. Check your cpu, chipset, and vga heatsinks and make sure they are not clogged with dust.

install rivatuner and turn the fan speed up a little, to whatever level you find the noise acceptable. all nvidia fans are locked at 29% at the moment due to faulty drivers

speeding the fan up will bring those temps down quite an amount, also make sure the card heasink is free of dust
