    Massive lag in SWAT 4

    Hello all,

I am having problems with SWAT 4 when entering new rooms or rooms with active AI (not AI that have been subdued or handcuffed). At the current settings I am averaging around 75 FPS, but when I enter new rooms (especially with AI present) or even rooms I have been in, with the "active AI", my FPS drops as low as 8 for a bit. I either end up dead or shooting a civilian because of the lag. It also happens in Crysis, but I don't want to begin to compare the two games.

My computer should easily run SWAT 4, but something is messed up, any ideas? Let me know if I left anything out.

    Specs:
    XP Professional
Intel Dual Core 3.0 Ghz with 800 FSB
4 GB of RAM 667 Mhz
8800 GT 512 Mb (169.09 Beta Drivers/169.02 Official, tried both)
    SB X-Fi Music

Theres most definitely a problem with your computer. Are you playing TSS Expansion Pack or the Vanilla?

Also, go to www.swat4.com and check the forums, they have a solution to pretty much every problem and will be able to help you out better.

I am playing the vanilla version right now. I heard the expansion pack is a bit buggy. I did post a thread in the official forums over there, but I have a feeling it's probably a fairly universal problem.

I am playing UT 3 offline and don't get these massive lag moments, so something must be affecting that game and possibly crysis.

I tried the demo for it and had horrible lag spikes as well.

I reinstalled windows and such and have narrowed the problem to a video card/driver issue. It has to be a driver issue because all other games run just fine (I can play UT 3 maxed out) just fine.

Is there a way to submit this problem to nVidia?

Odedge, theres one massive topic in SWAT4 official forums, where pretty much every problem has been submitted and answered, probably a sticky.

If you wont find anything there, try older videocard drivers. I cant say your problem is unique, theres bound to be an answer.

              Chris,

Now that I know essentially what the problem is, I will search more carefully. I just viewed my post in the same forums and a couple of other people posted they are having the same problem, but with no appearant solution.

What's odd is the game is "supported" by nVidia with their tagline "The way it's meant to be played!" Usually this is true for the most part, but not with this game.

One guy said the only current solution is to buy an ATI card.

                LOL!

Well, just so you know, SWAT4 ever had just one patch. 1.1. And it fixed pretty much the worst bugs only (like, devs fvcked up with setting ballistics for the UMP and gave it a 2000 gram bullet, hehehe. Brick wall madness). Shortly after the patch, on their own official forums, they changed the name of the "Tech Support" subforums to "Community Support".

Speaking of which, have you patched your game to 1.1?

And if you have tried older drivers, theres one last suggestion

thetgc.org is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, thetgc.org has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

Youll find some technically savvy people there, all good folks and some done some great work for SWAT4.

I have the Gold Edition of the game and it's patched to 1.1.

Since I have the 8800 GT (which is very new), I don't think there are a lot of drivers out there. Then again, I don't know which ones will work. For fun, I tried the 163.75 that works great with my 7800 GTX, but the software was smart enough to know I had 8800 GT and that it didn't support it.

I will try the thetgc.org if all else fails (i.e. tech support from sierra and evga).
