    Temperature and Fan Speed

    I have some questions on temperature and fan speed. I have the program called SpeedFan 4.33 but I have no idea what does what. It says the following:

    Temp1: 21C
    Temp2: 28C
    Temp3: -128C
    Core: 10C

    Well, I can tell that the Core temperature is good. But I have no idea what Temp1, Temp2, and Temp3 belong to... any ideas? Also, it has the following:

    Speed1: 50%
    Speed2: 50%
    Speed3: 50%
    Speed4: 50%

    Anyone have any idea what these are? Is this the adjustment for fan speed?

    If you have no information on this program, can you provide me with a good program that can monitor computer temperature and possibly be able to adjust fan speed. Also, I wanted to ask, is it good to increase your fan speed or can it damage things or what?

    Speedfan is good. The only problem with speedfan I ever had was that I had to set the temp gauges to measure from the right places.

    You can see that core temp is obviously wrong (taken from wrong sensor). My guess is that it's Temp2: 28C. You have a single core processor?

    Get superpi program and put it running and see what temperature starts to climb fast. Then assign that temperature to CPU in some speedfan settings (I can't remember the exact menu path. Anyway it's fairly straight-forward).

    The other has to be motherboard temperature and assign that to motherboard after you have found out which one is CPU.

    You are correct. The percentage shows the fan duty cycle. i.e. how fast of the maximum they go. The fan controlling programs tend to avoid using exact RPM settings/readings because different fans will have different rotating speed maximums.

    The speed of the fan is totally adjustible and it will not break anything to put it to 100% (full blow) unless you have faulty fans. The speed is controlled by voltage so you can plug all the case fans straight to 4-pin white molex with adapters (the same that goes to IDE CD/DVD or hard drives) connectors feeding 5V so they will always be at 100%.

        best guess is that speedfan temp monitoring is unsupported on your mobo, unless your pc is in a very, very, very, very cold climate or is being cooled by chilled water.

        motherboard model?

        go into your bios under "PC HEALTH" (or something similar) and see what it reports. the 21C and 28C figures--in a very cold room--might be possible for a hard drive, but a cpu? running at a temperature that is cold to the touch?

        btw, mine is a p965 and speedfan reports (as far as i can tell) my NB to be 127C. it is a nice tool; isn't perfect. :)

        if your mobo is an asus, they have a temp monitoring tool you can download.

          It's winter over here, about 40 degree's outside and 69 degree's in my house.

          I'll provide you with system specs, but I need to find out how I can pull up all of them. I know I can go into System and Maintenance but it only tells me how much RAM I have and what kind of processor.

            start-->run-->type msconfig-->hit enter

            should give you a mobo model/chipset/etc. if not, you can download the free version of everest on the internet for detailed system specifications.

            oh, and 69F = 20.5C, so you're measuring something (21C) at just above room temperature (HD? ambient?) and something running slightly hotter @28C (HD? North Bridge?), and something that is 50F (your 10C reading) which is only a few F away from freezing water, along with the -128 reading. none of those look like reasonable readings for a running cpu to me, but i've def been wrong before. If you've got a wind tunnel blowing of some type blowing 69F air onto your cpu, then it just might be 28C with light use. doubt it, though.

            at boot up, go into your bios and see if those numbers match anywhere near the values your chipset is reporting.

                28C for a CPU sound reasonables in idle. My E6750 does that even with a minor over-volting. It's winter here also and the room ain't that hot. AMD's were never that hot but surely borders plausible here though.

                Run the superpi and see if it gives rise to any temps rapidly.

                  Can you give me the link to superpi and how to use it? Because, I download something called superpi but had no idea how it worked nor did I find anything about temperatures.

                    From "Calculate" menu select for example 2M or 4M and start the PI calculation. Then monitor the temperature rise on the speedfan and you'll find out if any of those temps are really CPU (you know because it's the first one to start rising).
