Is it worth going AMD?

SO basically im building my last rig until im out of high school.

I just want opinions about if amd is actually better bang for the buck.Im a budget gamer and the spider platform sounds great with not having a new chipset being released every 3 months.

I am getting either a 3870 or 8800 gt for christmas so that will leave me anywhere from 3-4 hundred dollars depending how much i get for my birthday and christmas.

AMD is an excellent choice for the budget gamer, Alex is an Intel Diehard lolz...My AMD machine plays every game out there fine except Crysis (Stupid game anyway) sure Intel has awesome CPU's but it doesn't mean you still can't game happily with an AMD

yeh id go for AMD's lower end processors if you dont want to overclock, the AMD is alot more solid at the lower end than intel

AM2 motherboards are also generally cheaper than Intels 775 anyway

AMD fails.

Go for the Core 2 Duo E2140. It may only be clocked at 1.6Ghz but it has the potential with air cooling (about $34) to reach nearly 3Ghz and with water cooling (too expensive) it has the abilities to overclock to way over 3Ghz

Over here in the United Kingdom, the price of the C2D E2140 has dropped to £31.98. Which means that it must be about $60 over with you. Its super cheap, and its a fine specimen of a processor. Don't go with AMD.

Remember an AMD is not just for christmas. (You'll be stuck with it for a good while)

as far as im concerned the BMW would be a better car to buy, depending on the series, the 1 and the Z5's are utterly pointless..

However the 3 - 5 - 7 series are a great car, however in thr pass vauxhall have manufactured some good quality cars.

So for the sake of the arguement im going vauxhall!
