Recently I built a rig for my friend at work with the all-famous q6600 quad core. So I get a SMALL amount of arctic silver and apply it according to the instructions. I then installed his $50 zalman heatsink he bought with it. After booting up fine, I start pushing up the speed to 2.9 ghz (original 2.4) still thinking I have miles of headroom to go. I check the CPU temps and core 1 & 2 are both hitting 65C with only 5 minutes of prime 95 testing. We tried playing around with the voltage settings and even lowered it under the default 1.3v and still the temperatures did not lower like we wanted. Is this normal?? Is the quad core supposed to be running this hot all the time?
