What happens when a PSU can't take the pressure?

Ok, I'm planning to upgrade from a 7600GT to an 8800GT, but I'm worried about my PSU. For now, I don't have enough money for an 8800 AND a PSU, so I'll be trying to run the 8800GT on my 430w power supply for about 2 months until I can buy a new PSU.

So, questions, is it possible my PSU might hold out for 2 months?

And, what happens if it doesn't? Will my computer just not turn on? Or will it explode and damage something else inside?

No, seriously the PSU will be the least of your worries, if you have a crap PSU and its not powerful enough it will fry every component in your computer.

I personally would buy a decent PSU before the gfx card. You want one with a good brand ie, Tagan, Hiper, Akasa, Coolermaster, Corsair.

Just start the upgrade from PSU...

When i was planning to upgrade my graphics card(from 7600 GS to X1950 Pro). I did some searching and found out what is the max PSU the new card needed.

After that, i went, and bought 550W PSU and after that i upgraded to x1950...
