    Computer Repair Service

Does anybody ever go to any of those computer repair service shops? If so which ones have you gone to that seem to be good?

that's 14 day turn around time to clean out your machine... of dust

plus Geek Squad does a lot of bad stuff to your comp, i've heard of some people that paid to keep their data and it still got erased.

I wouldn't let those idiots touch my computer with a 20 foot pole.

Same, I doany repairs/modding myself. Wouldn't trust sending all my stuff to some retail/repair shop and have some strangers greasy fingers touching it!

^ WOW, that computer is CRAP! But that's besides the point. I whouldn't let geek squad do much with any computer, I'd only trust some of the family run bussineses around here that i know have good reviews.

Yep, DIY is the way to go, if not going to a local, trusted, computer store. We have one or two over here and they're OK, but the prices are still pretty bad. As far as a large chain goes, stay away. Don't take my word for it though, watch this video done by a Canadian news outlet. It's rather lengthy, but definitely worth a view.

For real. Learn how to do it yourself.

Computer building and parts are not exactly rocket science anymore. You don't even have to worry about setting sector counts to HDs or IRQs to peripherals.

Just un-plug the comp and open the case and start investigating. Having the mobo manual comes handy to indentify the parts if you really have no idea. Everything else is easily removable except the processor and unless you definately are replacing the thermal paste leave the processor on.

Yeah it is stupid to go and have another person do it.. I mean they really don't know crap.. I got into a fight with a geek squad guy once cuz I pointed out a bunch of burnt out pixels on this monitor I was going to buy and he was saying that it was normal.. It is just to easy to do this stuff yourself and cost $1000's less when building a new PC compared to buying a per build POS..

Here lies the difference between a kid, and one of us.

Black and Decker drill set + 20 minutes of time = analysis.

                        Then solve the problem, wewt.

There was a computer course i did that for all those that took part had to take apart a PC and leave each part on the desk incl removing the motherboard and all the drives etc, it was working before it was taken apart so the task was to put it all back together all in working order again.

Tomshardware has a pretty basic guide on how to build a PC from scratch and no doubt a few other usefull guides are around to learn from.

No and I find I would find it thoroughly embarrassing and annoying to do so. As Scinto said, DIY.
