Ram Upgrade... Go Go... Or No Go

    Ok,

    Currrently i have 2Gb 2 x 1Gb Dual Channel memory!

Im thinking of upgrading to 4Gb buying the Ram which someone suggested early in the threads from overclockers its only £36 and seems great ram!

    Ok.. So..

    Is it really worth it?
    Would i see any difference?
    Is the ram good?

    System Specs In Sig!

    Thanks!

I personally would advise 3gb as the sweet spot. Reason being that 32bit Windows XP/Vista will not see a full 4gb.

Due to the funky handling of IRQ's and memory management, the likelyhood is that with 4gb installed, you will see about 3.2gb, which obviously is not worth paying extra for.

Get another 1gb stick, or 2x512mb (if you want dual channel mode (which is better (dont know why though(it just is)))).

    and btw Knight, Z0mG I r LiEk INTe1 W0oT

        http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=8&subcat=144

That will be about £25 after P&P.

This is going to sound cheeky, but i have 2x512mb of OCZ Spec Ops Edition PC5400 if you want, £15.

Thats' not the reason i advised you on getting 3gb though, don't get me wrong :)

Even though tom's claim the effect being negligible I beg to differ. The speed boost is around 5-10% compared to single channel depending on the apps and their mem usage according to couple of reviews I read ages ago.

Anyway. The sufficient amount of memory in single channel is way better than to have less memory in dual channel.

              Who, me?

Sorry. I can't remember the links. Just google the reviews with something like Dual Channel vs Single channel.

                It's this:

DDR4 RAM up to 128GB and 4400MHz at the lowest prices online from Kingston, Crucial, Patriot and more. Buy from the experts. Next day delivery and finance available.

bought 8 months old now. Works fine, just taken out to make room for 2x1gb i bought (see the thread by Dan). Flogging for £15 otherwise it goes in my dad's PC.

Unless you know it's 64bit, it will be 32bit.

Double check by right clicking "My Computer" and then go properties!

                        Run winver?
But like Alex said, if you don't know then it is 32 bit.
64 bit is not something that just happens because you mark the wrong check box during installation

You'd know it's 64bit because you will have spent hours trying to find compatible drivers.

educate me plz, whats advantaes of the 64 ? & is xp pro 64bit?
mine only says xp service pack 2, but im sure its most likely 32bit.

on the ram, 3 gig is all you need. i actually know someone who game ran like heck & he had 4 gig , took one out & game runs great. i donno why but xp & 4gig dont float good.

                            :salute:
