Dual Channel with 3gig?

Can i run dual channel mode with 3x1gig sticks of ram?

But for dual channel you have to have an even number of matching sticks i thought.

So you could have 2x1gb running in DIMM 1&3 and 2x512mb running in DIMM 2&4.

This would mean both sets of chips would be in dual channel mode surely?

Yes it is. Also depending on the memory controller, the computer may not even run with three sticks.

You can have 3GB in dual channel, I have 2x1GB GeiL PC 6400 800MHz CAS4 sticks, and 2x512mb sticks with the same specs as above and it runs as dual channel.

No. Either single or dual. Not mixed.

You can run it in asymmetric dual channel mode which is reasonably fast. The motherboard has to support that though.
