Grainy screen?!??! wtf?]

hey guys... im an avid battlefield 2 player, and decided to upgrade my graphics card. Before, I had a stock compaq presario sr1950nx.... nvidia 6150 onboard.... 1.5 gigs of ram... anyways, I bought an nvidia 6200 off my friend for 20 bucks. When i went to install it, everything was fine.. I updated drivers, everything. But, when any black or dark-color displays on the screen, I can see little white dots jumping around if I look close. Am I hallucinating? Do I need to clean it out?





My birthday is coming up, and I may just ask for a new one, probably just a 8600 nvidia off newegg. Will my stock psu(300w) be able to handle it? Also If i got a new processor, mine right now is an amd 3800 single core, would I need a new motherboard to support it? It seems like if you upgrade one part on a computer, you need to get another new part to make that part work, and get another new part to make THAT part work, and so on and so forth.

The card itself is probably a little messed up hardware wise, you could clean the pins or blow off the dust.

The 8600 will not run with a 300W, you'll need like a 500W, and PCI-E x16 slot.

i have a pci express slot and 4 pci slots... so i should be fine with that. do i need like a 500w or do i need a 500w? is it possible to get too much power? because all of them are *pretty much* about the same price on newegg.


can you reccomend some brands?

doubt its possible to get "too much power" unless maybe lightning strikes your comp.

i dunno any psu brands, but check the amp rating under the 12 V on the sticker. higher is better

Problem #1: The 6150 may actually be better than the 6200. Point is that both GPU's are terriable. I would definately ask for a new card.

I disagree. I think his system even with a 8600GT/GTS will be OK with a generic 300W PSU. Yes the PSU quality is non-existant, but the system won't draw more than 150W anyways. I would expect even a no-name PSU to be able to give 50% of its rated power.

As for upgrading your system, you first need to know some info about it. Specifically, What socket is your CPU,(939 or AM2) and What grahics card slot do you have? (AGP or PCI-E) As for a video card upgrade, I would agree that a 8600GT is a good option. Before you buy also have a look at a ATI's 2600XT.

I will take out my 6200 right now and try it with 6150, im gonna ask for a 8600, then if it doesn't work with my psu im gonna upgrade that, only if i have to. As for my cpu, i have no clue what 939 vs AM2 is..... i have agp and pci express slots in my computer
