You think this is a good idea?

So, I'm already thinking about Christmas and what I can do with my computer, and I have thought of this.

I'll only have around 4-500 dollars, so I came up with getting a new video card, motherboard, and case.

I figured that I could just get a new mobo, and overclock the hell out of my e6300, and also get a new video card since my 7600gt is getting a little old. The case is just because the one I have now isn't that great.

So, you think that sounds good? I don't want to have to buy a new processor because I could just overclock mine. Plus it would put me over my budget.

Go for a 8800gts 320, Asus P5K Deluxe (or P5K-E if the Deluxe is too much), and then an Antec Nine Hundred case

lol, those are pretty much exactly the parts I was looking at...

I'm going to wait a little to see what new graphics cards come out near Christmas though.

8800gt to be released in november; ati's high-end respin will suck 100W LESS, and perform better; 790fx (a very, very good AMD chipset) to be released sometime in near future. you may not want an am2 processor, but that will drive prices down in short order.

i've been thinking about and shopping around for a 680i/975x/p35 myself.

Yea, i was about to say, the next wave of hardware releases is in site. If you can hold on for a month or two, then do that. The 8800gt is meant to be a very good overclocker, but i'd be interested to see if fills the price niche between the 8600 and 8800, or whether the 8600 is made even cheaper.

Yuppers. They are OK cards, but too expensive to advise someone to use. I guess you people over the pond get them cheaper though.

they are on par with a 7600gt, albeit they *say* dx10 compatible on the side.

be interesting to see what the folks who are buying crysis have to say about turning on deformable terrain/frame rates.

as far as just normal dx9 gaming (90% of people have non-vista systems) goes, they pretty much suck...at their price.
