1) What drivers do you recommend for an Ati Mobility 9200?

2) If i disable services on one XP account, will the other accounts have those services disabled as well?

edit and another question:
so right now in my current computer, i have a Soundblaster Live! soundcard and theres also an integrated Soundmax 4 XL on my intel motherboard (currently disabled). which sound card would be better for Bf2? i kno the soundmax is integrated but the Soundblaster is just so old...

1. Probably whatever is last available from the laptop manufacturer. Can't find any reference to that vpu on ATI's download page (did find it in the product pages, just no downloads). Actually found this,

Starting from Catalyst 6.6 and up, the following cards/chipsets (including Mobility) are no longer supported by the ATI or Omega Drivers:

7000 Series
7200 Series
7500 Series
8500 Series
9000 Series
9200 Series
9250 Series

2. Yes. Any changes made to services are system-wide.

Just make a new hardware profile to disable services. Mine has two settings at startup: power and standard. There's a nice site about services somewhere....

I'm not sure if this helps, but when bf2 first came out a couple friends of mine both had radeon 9000/9100 IGP chipsets, and the only drivers that would run bf2 decently on them was the "Omega Radeon Catalyst v2.6.0.5a (5.1)"

so I would say... go with the omega's.

k thanks all. i just got a newish old laptop for a relatively cheap price which im going to be using mainly for shcoolwork but i want to see if bf2 can run on it

Depends on which Live it is. Is it the 4.1, 5.1, Value or the 24 bit?

sb live! is 4.1 and the soundmax is 5.1

If you need the 5.1 I would go with the onboard. If you don't need 5.1 I would try both and see which sounds better.

One advantage that your SB will have over the onboard is that if you use EAX in games, it will still be done in hardware and not software. BF2 might be an exception to that, as I don't think there are any modded/updated drivers that add OpenAL support for that card.

One thing you can try if you want is the YouP-PAX drivers,

they are based on the Audigy drivers from about a year and half ago (I believe), so you will get an updated driver, but not sure about OpenAL support.

hey thanks stormy. ill look into these drivers too see if they help. ive never used modded sound drivers b4 and these are kindof strange.
