    error with memory and icons

Ok so i play a game called lineage2 and when i log in and start playing for 10 secs, i completely freeze. I can still see my person but i cannot move or do anything else. Then when i close the game, i get an error like "Toucan IPC Window - Application Error" and it reads "reference memory at (some numbers/letters) cannot be written, click ok to terminate the program"

Also, sometimes some programs on my desktop have the wrong icons like counter strike 1.6 having the bf2 icon.

    Help?

Re: error with memory and icons

Likely reasons and possible solutions, in no particular order:

    Malware--scan for viruses, spyware, etc.

Corrupt windows system/registry files--reinstall Windoze; a six pack of imported dark beer helps take away the sting

Memory is flaky--take out one stick, and see if you still get the error. take the second stick out, and put the first one in a different socket; retry. if it stops giving you errors with other combinations of sticks/sockets, that means you have some bad hardware

If it was me, I'd test my ram and the ram sockets on the motherboard, do a virus scan (you don't want your media* contaminating a new install) and then reinstall windows. Shoot, I'm getting thirsty already, and it's only 11:30.

move your ram to a different socket.

oh i thought there was a program to test ram

edit: Also, if i run both avast! virus scan and McAfee virusscan at the same time on the computer, will it slow processes and internet down? since theyre both scanning

i would (personally) never, never run two av programs. i use avast and am happy with it, considering price (free).
